Monica began her legal career in 1997 as a commercial litigation associate at King & Spalding in Atlanta. Upon returning to Gainesville, Florida, she worked as a Staff Attorney for the Eighth Judicial Circuit and as a partner in an elder law firm with a focus on estate planning, guardianship and probate administration, and guardianship, probate, and trust litigation.
Monica had the privilege of serving as a circuit judge in the Eighth Judicial Circuit from 2013-2023. Her judicial assignments included: Circuit Civil (examples of these cases included personal injury, wrongful death, products liability, premises liability, real estate, construction, contract disputes, estate/trust litigation, medical malpractice, and nursing home negligence). Additional judicial assignments included Family (Divorce, Paternity, Child Support, Adoption), Probate, Guardianship, Juvenile Delinquency and Dependency, Truancy, Domestic Violence, and Mental Health Courts.
Monica served as the Administrative Judge of the Eighth Circuit’s Civil Division from 2017-2022, and served on Florida’s Trial Court Budget Commission from 2017-2022, She served as a “Mentor Judge” for multiple judges in the Eighth Circuit, and had the honor of acting as a visiting Associate Appellate Judge for the First District Court of Appeal. Finally, Monica has spent many years participating in The Bennett Inn of Court and the Adkins Inn of Court and has acted as a presenter, panelist, and/or facilitator at numerous legal and community events.
